Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's family moved to Louisiana in the age of nine. Decker then won a local talent contest for a version of "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" from Patsy Montana. By 15 Decker lived in Georgia. She was writing songs regularly as well as visiting Nashville to find bargains. Songs were offered to record labels and other artists by a Big Yellow Dog Records agent when she was 17. When Mercury Records president David Massey was introduced to Decker's work, he passed the songs on to L.A. Reid head of the affiliated Island/Def Jam label group and Reid agreed to sign her up for an agreement with a record label. Jessie James, her moniker for the album she debuted with that title in August 2009, was self-titled. Jessie James had a moderately popular debut album. Wanted, a song of the album, reached the Top 40 singles chart. Decker has always been a "country" artist but this album is produced and marketed for a pop audience. After two more singles from the album stiffed Decker battled with label executives for greater control of her music. the next single Boys in the Summer was more of a country-centric release. Decker's second album announced under the titles of Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and three singles failed on the charts for country. Decker was released from her contract.
